Bird Flu
Posted February 20th, 2006 by Cara
Is here. Sigh. They've found it in birds in eight different places in Egypt, including Cairo. So far, they have not found any human cases, just birds, and as they keep saying repeatedly, it is NOT transferable human to human. The American Embassy has sent out guides, advising against coming near live chickens, avoiding their poop especially. There are shops selling live (well, sort of live, they kill them on the spot for you) chickens all around campus. Yet even an infected bird, if cooked a normal time, isn't a danger. It's more of a risk for the people working with the chickens. We'll see what happens.
